The North Essex Veterans Mental Health Network (NEVMHN) has been established to ensure that there is active and meaningful dialogue between the full range of agencies in the North Essex area concerned with the mental health of veterans.
The initial dialogue between the Military Mental Health team at Colchester and the North Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust regarding the care handover of a particular service leaver raised more questions than answers. Combat Stress were consulted as experts in this field and the beginning of a network was formed. Project expertise was provided by Enable East and the team included a veteran. The focus for all is the veteran and putting the veteran first.
As a direct result of the partnerships formed through the NEVMHN and the hard work of dedicated individuals, the North Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust launched the Veterans First Service in May 2012. The team is already making a difference to veterans and cascading advice and treatment throughout the Trust. To contact the Veterans First team follow the 'GET HELP NOW' from any page.
